WE KNOW WHAT YOU NEED - WE KNOW WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS
Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology was founded in April, 2004 with clinical teaching of Final Part 1 students. Initially, it was started with only one permanent teaching staff; Professor and Head Prof Mya Thida and assisted by four part time teaching staffs from Department of Health.
Previously, the Department was able to conduct the undergraduate courses only: Final Part 1 and Final Part 2. However, with the guidance and support from the Department of Human Resource for Health, more and more full time teaching staffs were appointed to Department of OBGY.Hence, not only the undergraduate courses but also the postgraduate courses such as M.Med.Sc (OG), Diploma in Family Medicine and Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology were conducted. The first batch of M.Med.Sc (OG) was opened in year 2011 with six candidates.
At first, only two teaching units were present to cater the undergraduate students: Magway Regional Hospital and Minbu General Hospital. However, in 2008, Magway Teaching Hospital was established and affiliated to the University of Medicine Magway. Therefore, both undergraduate and postgraduate students obtained the opportunity to expose the variety of patients which facilitated the training of students in achieving their M.B.,B.S and master degree.
Since then, with the support from Department of Human Resource for Health, more and more teaching staffs were appointed to Department of OBGY and nowadays, there are altogether 17 full time teaching staffs and 4 part time teaching staffs. They are fully responsible for producing qualified basic doctors and specialists in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
