Welcome to Department of Medicine

History

       University of Medicine, Magway was founded on May,2001. The first head of department of Medicine was Prof. Mya Mya Aye (2003 to 2005).The latter heads of department were Prof. Zaw Lynn Aung (2005 to 2012), Prof. Aye Tun (2012 to 2014), Prof. Nang Phyu Phyu Aung (2015 to 2016) and Prof. Thin Thin Nwe (2016 to 2019). The present head of department is Prof. Nyo Nyo Wah.

         At the start of opening of the department, the teaching staffs were very scarce and so the visiting lecturers from the other universities of Medicine such as University of Medicine 1, Yangon, University of Medicine, Mandalay and University of Medicine 2, Yangon came to Magway and helped the department.

         Department of Medicine had two teaching hospitals: Magway Regional Hospital and Minbu District Hospital at first. Then Magway Teaching Hospital was estabilished on 2008 and so there are three teaching hospitals at the moment.

         As a post graduate training, M.Med.Sc (Internal Medicine) courses were started on December, 2009 and now seven batches have been completed their courses and forty-one physicians (general medicine) were produced.

1. Third year MBBS
2. Final part 1 MBBS
3. Final part 2 MBBS
4. House surgeons (internship training)
5. First year MMedSc (Internal Medicine)
6. Second year MMedSc (Internal Medicine)
7. Third Year MMedSc (Internal Medicine)

The department has to train other diploma and post graduate students as extracurriculum such as:

  • Diploma in Family Medicine
  • MMedSc (Tropical and Preventive Medicine)
  • MMedSc (Pharmacology)
  • MMedSc (Obstetric and gyanecology)
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacology
